The article discusses the features of solving geometric problems by the vector method. The importance of students' assimilation of the basic concepts on the topic vector, their need for the development of mathematical disciplines studied at the university is emphasized. The analysis of the research work devoted to the history of the formation of the concept of vector and its application is carried out. The features of the use of traditional and vector methods in solving geometric problems are described. The efficiency of using the vector method in solving geometric problems is described. The principles that can be used to solve problems by the vector method are proposed. The efficiency of solving problems by the vector method using these principles is shown. The content of the vector topic in the school geometry course and the application of the vector method are considered. Examples of using the vector method in proving the properties of geometric shapes are presented. The solution of problems on the topic vector in the course of higher mathematics is proposed. Based on the considered examples, it is concluded that students should know the basic concepts on the topic of the vector necessary for solving problems.
